Mssg. to the Rdrs.

I wanted to find the original AA Milne art of this story, but alas, as the message says:

Gone Out
Back Soon
Busy
Back Soon

If youre wondering where its from, it is from Winnie the Pooh, the original AA Milne stories. Little slices of Zen that everyone should read once, no matter what your age.

Times are crazy right now. Work, holidays, people will be visiting. I promised a number of things this year, all I can promise now is that I promise to do some of those things and I promise to make more empty promises in the future.

I will have a worthy post of my favorites this year. It will be a valuable and surprising post to some. It'll be up sometime before the new year. For the next week or so, I can't promise anything, but the new year is upon us, and things will resume to normal... or somewhat normal. I was just getting into the swing of things again before I got pulled away.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Best of, and if the artwork above is yours, apologies, I stole it, let me know if it bothers you.

Happy Holidays peeps.

Word.

hey blend, left a long reply to your comment on my Hoover post. If you have any more of the odder parts of that family tree, that'd be cool.

also, if you're around my blog there's a Honeywell uber-fan dissing Guyver-One (on the honeywell discography post)... just thought you should know. Oh, and Cory Linstrum (of JHW/Han Shan) dropped by.

wow... isnt that cool as shit?

i have just about everything from the Hoover family tree except Radio Flyer, I think you can find it on KissMySoundSystem... he hasnt been around in a while, but his links are still up...

what else do you need?

Sorts
Abilene
Regulator Watts
HiM
June of 44
Crownhate Ruin

i dont have all the HiM albums, but i have almost everything from all the others... let me know and its yours..

Man, when I saw that image come up in my reader, I totally expected a Bisy Backson album!

shit... I've had Radio Flyer for years, actually. Found it on eMusic about the same time as I got into Hoover, and it still one of my favourites... especially the song '(312)'

I have everything there except June of 44 and HiM, so whatever of those you can get for me I'd be grateful. I reckon I'll do some digging, maybe put a request up on my blog, see if or who Watts Systems are and what they have...

Also, do you know Tonie Joy (from Moss Icon) 's band The Convocation Of...? Unrelated to Hoover, but the album of theirs I have sounds kinda like Crownhate Ruin's 'Piss Alley' played over and over again... actually pretty good.

And re: this post, do you know of a book called the Te of Piglet, I think its called? I think it makes the Taoism/Zen of the Milne stories explicit, or something. Haven't read it.

- pencrush, yeah you're right. Kinda reggae/ska I gather? Just found their album on eMusic...

looked at bandtoband again and there are FIFTEEN bands which directly share member(s) with Hoover. I know at least half of them, but maybe other people will need to do the less straightforward ones!

here's the Hoover page:
http://bandtoband.com/index.php?Page=Search&BandId=54

next post on HfN will be something interesting from that, and maybe an outline of what I'm going to do.

i have all the June of 44 and two HiM albums i'll up for you...

i have the Convocation of and its pretty good, but I am looking for their album Pyramid Music... or something to do with Pyramids..

The Te of Piglet is a good book, but the Tao of Pooh is a phenomenal book... both by the same author, really easy reads, get Tao first, then Te...

if you wanna up Radio Flyer for me, I'll get those others for you. though I wont make a post due to the T&G thing... i'll just drop them off to you at HfN

Might be Pigment Vehicle or the Primrods you checked out, two fine bands that may or may not be up yr alley...definitely hoping some of it speaks to you!

hey blend... the track list from your sawhorse upload and the tracklist from some discog sites on the internet are different (in order, not in titles). are you sure about the order of the songs? i'm asking because i was updating one of those sites and noticed it. lemme know.

also, happy hoidays and all that jazz. i've got a crapload of music, so if i learn how to upload stuff, i'll start sending you cats tons of links in the new year.

hey Michael, thanks for bringing that up. To be honest, that probably isnt the track order. When I got the link for that, they were untagged files, but they had the names. I remember putting them in iTunes in a certain order when I first listened to them, and then tagged them later. But I couldnt find a tracklist, so I just numbered them in the order they were...

If you have the proper order, let me know so I can fix it.

How many other songs do they have besides the 2 tracks from the Give Me Back comp?

as for guest writers, maybe after the new year when I attempt to pick things back up. For now, just hang out, say hi.. you know. and thanks for the offer!

hey blend, here's the track order for sawhorse that i've found other places on the mighty interweb:

A1 Snap
A2 Direction
B1 One
B2 Fist Full of Lies

that seems to be the consensus anyway. and i think sbj nailed it: i don't know of any other places to find sawhorse tracks besides the "can of pork" comp and the "give me back" comp (and the 7" of course).

merry kwanzaa everybody.

im tired of "reading" all these, but im not sure if anyone mentioned THE BOOM from the hoover family tree. actually they may have been a splinter off the crownhateruin family tree...haha, but its all the same. happened around the same time as the sorts, but more jazz/rocky. regardless of official member family trees, i have seen them play shows with the sorts and abilene, which means every member of hoover was in attendance at the same time playing a show. and there was some kind of uber rock jam at the end. kinda like when eddie vedder comes out and plays an encore with neil young. you are watching and then like "wait, what the fuck! awesome!" and then you pee your pants in anticipation of them kicking out some kind of tasty old hoover jam in the improv section, but they never do.

4:31 PM

I am not sure that Hoover is still doing it for me anymore. Kind of feel like a lot of the songs are just too long. But that's me. But there are a few that i still dig.

They played up Mpls a lot. I always remember liking them live a lot. The first time i met Fred from Hoover, he was roadieing for Say No More, a sxe band from Omaha.

The Boom was actually pretty good.

Can anyone put up the first Lungfish cd? The old link i found doesnt work anymore.

sorry i get cranky sometimes...haha. i can only take so many "hoover was awesome" comments...haha...but alas, i am guilty of the same thing i despise. the boom ruled. i prefer the first album with the singing to the second which is pretty much instrumental.

10:48 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

New topic - perhaps the greatest band of almost all time - SWIZ. discuss.

Start with why they ruled.
Then go onto the bands that came after and why they didnt as much.

Bluetip - had some amazing stuff.
Severin...a couple good songs at best.
Jesus Eater- should have been amazing. wasnt.

Others?

11:16 AM
Blogger blend77 said...

phil, if you have the Boom's first album. i would love to hear that... Fred Erskines bass is some of my favorite...

and on one hand, i hear what youre saying, on the other, its cool that over 10 years later, people still go nutz over the hoover union...

Jaysin, Swiz is the bomb. I have been listening to the Jesuseater album on Deathwish, and its not that bad. Its no Swiz, but I like it... never heard Severin... one of the few Dischord bands i havent heard, and Bluetip started off great but then slowed down for me... what about Sweet Belly Freakdown? Its the exact same line-up Swiz... ive never heard that either..

anyone got that album?

2:07 PM
Blogger proven hollow said...

i'll get the boom together this evening. its real good.

swiz was the best band that ever was. enough said. no need to discuss it. haha.

i agree bluetip started out good. like a dc version of quicksand. they had some promo 7" thing around the time of the first album and it had by far their best song on it, i'll have to pull out the record boxes and get to mp3izing again (i bought a house and everythign is still boxed up). bluetip got worse and worse in my opinion. while i love(d) me some jason farrel, he just seemed to get prickier and prickier everytime i saw him. maybe it was just me getting bitterer and bitterer.

jesuseater. i wanted to love them so much. great name, great players. 2 not so great albums. boohoo.

sweetbellyfreakdown was the best of the post swiz bands. it actually still sounds reminiscent of swiz. but you know what? when i want to hear swiz, i listen to fucking swiz!

i guess you could branch out on the tree further and include shudder to think once nathan joined. shudder to think was fucking amazing. even their last stuff, i hated...but knew deep down inside that it was still amazing.

Weird, I thought i had posted a comment and it didnt show up. Anyway, Sweetbelly...it's Swiz without the SWIZ. Maybe if they turned up the guitars A LOT.

The Boom is better than i remember. liking that.

Has anyone heard Jason Farrel's new band? He was a great designer. Too bad Bluetip wasnt better. Man, his guitar sound was pretty sweet.

Another topic - Chris Thompson. Was he really ever in BAD band? Ignition, Circus Lupus, Monorchid, Skull Kontrol, etc...

Also can someone put up Skull Kontrol? I have everything on vinyl and would like to listen to it again.

Sweet Baby Jaysus, you rule. Thanks. I don't know where the 1134 guys came from or went to, but I know I loved them. Still do.

I keep coming up with ideas of bands time has forgotten. Another one, Dayspring. Anyone remember them? They put out an album on New Age Records called "Dreamstate." Older Reach The Sky sounds similar to them. Anywho, I think you can still get their cd from New Age.

Happy holidays to everyone! GO GREEN BAY PACKERS! haha.

Cen Penn! Dayspring was cool, so was Grip, and then he went on to Cycle... but for some reason, I guess I was listening to Ashes at the time... remember that?

Brian McTiernan from Battery and Elena Ritchie on voice... awesome stuff..

oh, and Amber Inn was good... one of the guys from Heroin, right? or was it Antioch Arrow?

4:00 AM

Speaking of Battery. I think it was Mike from Darkest Hour that was in Battery. I was watching the Darkest Hour DVD one day and he mentioned it in one of his interviews. Weird.

I don't think I've ever heard Heroin, but people talk about them all the time being influencial and stuff.

What about One Eyed God Prophecy?

8:43 AM

Heroin was amazing. Definately required listening.

I am pretty sure Mike from Darkest Hour was in Battery.

One Eyed God Prophecy was supposed to be like Union of Uranus, but really didnt pull it off in my opinion. They were heavy, but just not entirely brutal. They were Canadian. What else needs to be said?

much respect for Heroin, Angel Hair, Antioch Arrow etc., but never listen to it as much as I should. I always prefer stuff more like Swing Kids, Mohinder, Guyver - something with a tune to it!

I should really do that Guyver post... I re-upped the 7" for someone, holler if you want it.

Gabba, do you like Wolves?

12:39 PM
Blogger gabbagabbahey said...

love 'em.

I have art.culture.work, been meaning to get their other one for ages. You got me into them when you posted the Ampere-Sinaloa-Wolves splits... I think that was actually one of the very first things I got off this blog.

Ampere + Sinaloa + Wolves = pretty much all the modern American hardcore I listened. And maybe LATS, too. (Also, Footprints on Floorboards finally came in the post/mail last week... along with Jawbreaker's Etc. and a Dear You t-shirt that's a size too small)

So yeah, I guess you're asking because of the "something with a tune" line? I like to have the right mix of melody and abrasion, and Wolves have really got that... in the same way that Sinaloa sound slightly like a throwback to Moss Icon, Wolves remind me of those really fast hardcore/emo bands of the 90s that I mention above...

that answer your question? I'm typing up Radio Flyer at the mo, so my critical faculties are engaged, hence the length

1:34 PM
Blogger blend77 said...

haha. yes.

wolves are very good. if you want the Simulation.Transparency.Alienation ep, it is awesome...also the Transistor Transistor split.

they have that Swing Kids sound, but even more tuneful maybe. I'm waiting for another band to up that sound.

and I've been listening to ampere a ton lately. They keep getting better with each listen.

2:41 PM
Blogger sweet baby jaysus said...

have you seen the ampere first five years comp? it's pretty sick. everything in one place with a little dash of live bonus tacked onto the end. i'll up it this evening after i get back from work. kinda wicked late, but whatever, it's saturday. suck it.

7:39 PM
Blogger gabbagabbahey said...

Ampere is a little too abrasive for my tastes, but I do enjoy it immensely... it is Will Killingsworth after all. Just found The First Five Years via Google Blog Search, quite a useful resource sometimes (josephlovesit from Geek Down turned me onto these past few weeks)

yes, what will be the next Wolves? I'm waiting too.

are we just copying and pasting the old "mouthpiece" commebts now? haha...didt we already go through all this?1 new people ruin everything. of course i kid and a "crabby old man" sorta way.

i liked grip, dayspring/cycle was too "oh i'm an emo guy" for my tastes. in other words, a little too "pussy." actually it was the same exact "idea" as grip, but like a little more smoothed out...not as punchy or "hard." i dont know. they were good live.

ashes was kinda bleh. nice folks, but aside from the novelty "girl sxe" thing, they were kinda not so good. haha.

amber inn was awesome. not sure if they had a heroin connection, but i seem to remember some of them being in the yah-mos. who also were good.

you know when sometimes you really want to like a band, but just can't...

dougnuts was one of those bands for me. all-female vegan straightedge, seemed like such an awesome idea, but damn did they suck.

hey i'm from toronto like the new day rising/spread the disease kids... i remember going to hellfest '99 in syracuse with spread the disease and they dressed up like weird inbred metal hicks, complete with fake buck teeth, rat tails, fake scabs, the whole nine yards... everyone at hellfest had big bands and bigger egos and they had no idea what to make of the std kids, until they got on stage and FUCKING BLEW EVERYONE AWAY. that was one of the most awesome sets i've ever seen, just because of the reaction from all the kids who definitely weren't expecting to love the band, but ended up loving them anyway. i was selling merch for them after the set, and honestly i've never seen so many people crowd a merch table so fucking fast. it was totally awesome. ahh, the memories....

i was just talking with a friend of mine the other day about how we missed new day rising and couldn't find any on the net, so if anybody's got some, rock it.

oh and i got envy's abyssal for xmas (my friend ordered me a copy from temporary residence). sooooo stoked.

Hey, Michael, do you have any New Day Rising? I have everything put out by STD(haha, I still get a kick out of their initials). I got the pleasure of seeing The Abandoned Hearts Club in Milwaukee with The End. That was a good show, considering no one knew what to expect. So good.

Doughnuts were terrible. "I SMASHED HIS FACE!" I mean, seriously?! What? However, I would like to hear them again just to see what they sounded like. I have another all girl straight edge band from Seattle which I think is no defunct, To See You Broken. I will upload them to my blog soon.

i've been trying to find a mix tape you'd put up on here (at least i think it was here)...i'd recently had my hard drive wiped clean for some reason...and there was a mix that i'd downloaded...it was a mix of cover songs...and i don't remember the full title...i think it was "on the butcher block" or something...and it opened up with avail covering the billy joel song "you may be right"...if someone could hook me up with that i'd greatly appreciate it

Tristeza is awesome. What an amazing band they were when James LaValle was with them.

Ricardo, I dont have those in particular, but I have this:

Evergreen Discography. Its unofficial, as I dont think they have a discography release, but it may have what you want.

I have Antioch Arrow - In Love With Jetts and Lady Is a Cat. Do a search, cuz I think I posted it. Let me know if you need it again.

Ipecac. I dont have that mixtape. Someone else posted it when I had people guest posting. If they catch this comment, maybe they can re-up it.

Anything posted by Blend77 I can get for you.
