Pitchblende

Au Jus (1994)

For my debut contribution for the blog I'll start with a DC band.
I've had this cd for a long time and this is one of those bands that I absolutely love to forget it's existence just so I can re-encounter it and re-discover it's sound. It never gets old to me. Pitchblende was a four-piece band from Washington DC. Their sound has a touch of the DC sound, but more experimental and daring in lots of different ways. The opening track of this cd will give you a good ride on it's intense bass lines. After they broke up, Turing Machine (a instrumental 3-piece) was formed with a couple of its members. This album was released by Cargo Records.
Hope you guys like it.

I finally got to the part in The Illuminatus Trilogy with zen in the art of face punching. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hey destroyer, I'll be sure to give this a listen. Though the artwork is a little odd!

I hear you saw Battles live... hopefully I'll see them this August, after seeing 'Slint performing Spiderland' (thank you so much Blend, without this blog I may never have known how good they were!)

yeah, pretty much. Also the Glenn/Rhoda Ep (arrived in the mail from Touch and Go a week ago) and the For Carnation album(downloaded from eMusic... a while ago, but just 'clicked' for me last night). I'd have to say you're totally justified in your effusive praise for all things Slinty!

haha!

that For Carnation album is something else...

Emp Mans Blues and the second song... so dark and hypnotic... Moonbeams is beautiful...

i have the Marshmallow and Fight Songs eps too if youre interested...

I would be interested, though I've heard they're a bit bland (in comparison). I think Touch and Go are releasing a compilation of their earlier stuff (Promised Recordings?) in July, which I'll probably buy if it seems worth it.

yes, they are not as good, but they both have some good tracks that you will like...

Hey... Slint is coming to L.A. to play Spiderland also, but they will be playing at the Fonda Theatre and that place has the worse sound acoustics in this planet. They have turned absolute must-see shows into a big disappointment for me, so I rather skip and listen to the record at home at full blast the night of the show.
As for the artwork here, you know what they say... "Never judge a book by its cover"

Hey Blend... Gabbagabba had said
"Hey destroyer, I'll be sure to give this a listen. Though the artwork is a little odd!"

I meant the artwork on Pitchblende's Au Jus cover.

Oh and regarding the redesign of the blog, I think I like the way u have it. I think it misses a link back to the main page though. Like when you browse the arquives, visitors should be able to click on the header to get back to the main page.

Yeah, I was just commenting on the cover - what seems to be an amalgam of dentistry, macabre cartoons and dull grey Courier New...

Since youse are all qualified graphic designers, and I'm... not, I'll leave the artistic criticism to you!

But anyway Blend, I gotta say I like the theme of the website at the moment, especially the header

yeah, i noticed about the link. i dont know how to fix that... im mostly web dumb too.. i can make links go to new windows and add pictures to links and size them accordingly.. but thats about it...

basically enough to run this blog in a minimal fashion....

and i suppose i'll leave the artwork, though I may change the colors...
