Mouthpiece - What Was Said (1993)

By Request:

Mouthpiece, also known as Chain of Strength Jr., were an Old School styled, straightedge hardcore band from NJ. They were famous for their youth crew style approach when it wasnt all the rage to do that style (as it became so fashionable in the later part of the decade). They had a very simple sound but a great vocalist and passion to match. They played great live, and I was thankful to see them with both Lifetime on one occasion and with 108 on another occasion.

This album features their amazing first 7" with by far one of the best hardcore songs ever, Can We Win....

Enjoy, and I am now taking requests.... I will post a bunch of Avail in a week or so, but in the mean time, lets trade... tell me what you want, I or someone else can help out, and maybe you have something we want too.

Thanks guys, Cheers!

if your doing avail, i need dixie.

mouthpiece was cool, along with outspoken, a chorus of disapproval (another want) and ressurection.

good post!!!

Mouthpiece carved some crucial words and music into my head.. Although the album is definitely not their best record, it's still a classic in my book.

damn, i know ive got sawhorse in one of these boxes, i'll keep digging around. i was hoping someone else would have it so i didnt have to...haha. for some reason all my shit is out of alphabetical order....shame! mouthpiece...never cared for them. i was starting to get out of the whole "typical hardcore sound" by the time they came around. while i know they aren't typical, i just couldnt really get into it. im curious to hear the new kirsch band, although i think he has kind of lost his band momentum. to me the last like 3 bands could have easily just been the same band...haha. maybe i'm a dick. he's got to be getting old and sick of dealing with "the kids" by now! haha. got the new 108, its pretty good.

3:05 PM

yes, I was impressed with the new 108, been listening to it all weekend

Bread and Circuits, Please Inform and Baader Brains, all sound the same. but I like the sound, and hes good with a catchy hook. But i have never heard Sawhorse of Torches to Rome, so im anxious to hear them ( i think we all are)

as for Convocation of... Lemme listen to the first one. I will probably like it and then ask for Pyramind Techmology...

new 108 is really something nice... Ive always loved them, even when they were super metal... I just really like Vic Dicara...

its a bit harsher than B&C and Please Inform... The times may be messed up, and the recording is low. I didnt know jose palafox was in the band too...cool.

thanks for all the crud you guys put up...

i'll have to post it someday for posteritys sake. that way when anyone comes here they'll have a good viewing of hardcore history.

i also have the awesome brazillian stuff from destroyer. Presto? and Debate. I hope you checked that stuff out. Presto? is like Los Crudos on Sludge and Debate is very DC-Hooverish.

and check out everything else if you havent already. this is some classic shit going down right here.

oh and the In the Fishtank series... I have heard a number of them, and overall I would say that they are of passing interest at best. The Sonic Youth ones were pretty bad, but two that I liked were the June of 44 and the Isis and Aereogramme collab.

ogg:

Compressed audio file that uses free, unpatented Ogg Vorbis compression; similar to an .MP3 file, but sounds better than an MP3 file of equal size; supported by many audio players and some portable music players.

Programs that play ogg.

WinAmp
Zinf
foobar2000
VideoLAN VLC Media Player
RadLight Media Player with DirectShow filter
Microsoft Windows Media Player with DirectShow filter
The Core Media Player with DirectShow filter
RealNetworks RealPlayer with Xiph OGG plugin

this really isnt in a same vein as the rest of the posts, but a buddy of mine has been on the hunt for an old band he loved, 12 rods. anybody ever heard of this band? and if so, have any albums? me/him would be muchly appreciated.

blend, post something new so we can start a new comment thread! haha!

shit should we just start our own forum? or maybe just one huge long comment ticker kinda thing? that seems to be all we need. ha.

kudos on the hated post. you had one i didnt, so i'm stoked.

another request, i remember having an Lp by a band named thorns. not the one man band preston thorns, but they were kinda lumped into the whole dc/baltimore scene from what i remembered back in the day. anybody?

also, i sold a ton of records some years ago, and the highest dollar item sell was the moss icon/ silver bearings split 12". i wont say how much i sold it for, but anyway, i'd love a copy of it now. anyone?

i'm gonna have to compose a serious request list, cuz out of th 5 or 6 of us, i think we can all get everything we've been needing...haha.

4:41 PM
Blogger papstar said...

ok...KMS. That is no problem..gimme some time to grab them. Would the morning be ok?

Proven Hollow..12 rods. I got you/him covered. I've got 4 albums by them...which are you looking for.

I have Gay?, Lost Time, SPlit Personalities, and Separation Anxieties.

Just lemme know...and same deal, would the am be ok? If not, I can grab some of these from home, not sure how fast I can up tho.

that crud is a cult record is fantastic. its amazing how much of a song you can remember when you havent heard it in almost 15 years.

btw, i can''t remember the band's name, but i had seen them a few times live back in the day and they always did a pretty killer cover of the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald. anyone know who i'm talking about? i dont remember the 7" being that good, but since we are strolling down memory lane, i thought i'd like to give it another listen. i always think of them playing that song live and thinking to myself "what the fuck?! that is insane!"

breathing walker

breathing walker is pretty much the "other moss icon" band if you guys havent heard it. same people as moss icon plus a few others. i had this thing on cassette for years and i think vermin scum re-released it on cd a few years back. "if you liked moss icon, you'll looooove this." haha.

1.6 band was rad, the song lollipops was great.

carbomb
http://www.mediafire.com/?0mfkl0jwmwm

i have never heard of this band before i moved to austin, my friend introduced me to them, i'm not sure where i was in 90's but i so missed out on these guys... i think they sounded like rights of spring but more catchy. i can't write descriptions for shit..

thanks for all this. it rules. i have tons to contribute, but the majority of what is missing amonst these uploads is in my parents house in northamerica (me in japan now). let's hope this blog is up in a couple of months, then i can throw some shit up.

wrangler brutes were rad on their japan tour some years ago. they broke up after. sam mcpheeters is an odd duck... i tried to communicate with him, in regards to his old zine ("shooting space"). odd conversation!

You are right, blend. Not only Anasarca is a great band but without any doubts it's the best comment section in the whole blogging world I've ever seeen :) Hey, now you can make a promo t-shirt of your blog with this slogan on it ;)

carbomb was darn good. they had a follow up band, tune in tokyo, that i can up if anyone is interested.

jara was the post-downcast band, and they weren't so hot. i think blend and i have talked about this previously, but i used to loooove still life. but i find them barely listenable now. oh well.

paps, if i can get that 4th 12 rods from you, that would be amazing. thanks!

Since everyone's raving about the new 108 - and with good reason - I will join in singing their praise. The record is so intense, so sick, so fucking harsh... At times it's painful to listen to and most of the time that's a good thing.

Here are four unreleased 108 tracks, the version of "Path of Truth" (later released on their latest demo as "Walk Their Path?") is even better in my ears.

Some other Mike Kirsch bands I want to hear:
The Skinflutes
Fifteen
Silver Bearing
Pinhead Gunpowder
Sixteen Bullets

never mind...I hear he played 2nd guitar on the s/t 7"

I have tons of fifteen...but I doubt I have this...maybe on a compilation. Is that all you guys want? or some of the other ones. The lead singer was Jeff Ott....pretty cool guy.

5:00 PM
Blogger blend77 said...

according to bandtoband.com (awesome site by the way) he wasnt in Fifteen, but Jeff Ott from Fifteen was in Crimpshrine and the guy in Crimpshrine was in Pinhead... also, it seems Kirsch has been on almost every release for Pinhead Gunpowder up to 1995.

wow.. bringing it back to Lookout Records, rest in pieces.

i would like a jasemine discography if anyone has one. they were from france, like fingerprint.

Since I've been leeching so much stuff from these comments, it's about time I contributed something. Here's the Monsula CD that combines the "Sanitized" and "Structure" LPs. In case you don't know, they're an early '90s East Bay band.

If you're into the late '80s DC sound, you've probably heard of After Words, even though they were from Atlanta. They released an album on Sammich in '88, which I've been wanting to hear for years. A friend recently hooked me up, so I'm sharing the goods.

After Words - LP
http://www.mediafire.com/?9x1vwbbmjm4

Anyone remember Silent Majority from Long Island? I think they're a pretty underrated band...good mix of '90s hardcore, emo and just regular rock. This is their first disc, which (I believe) combines a few 7"'s and comp. tracks.

Silent Majority - Based on a True Story
http://www.mediafire.com/?ag3mgjdzyxo

Don't have any Nuisance. Weren't Sideshow from the midwest? I thought they released an album and 7" on Crank in the mid-'90s. Maybe I'm thinking of a different Sideshow.

Anyone have the Jenny Piccolo discography?

thanks for mitb "thoughtless"!

speaking of which (sorta), capitalist casualties are playin' my hood this weekend - i thought they broke up eons ago? i love their early records (esp split w/ stack! the drumming... wow), but stopped after "subdivisions in ruins" (new drummer). anyone check 'em out recently? i'm siked, yet somewhat apprehensive.

this should be a messageboard BTW.
