Pegboy - Earwig

Pegboy - Earwig (1994)

Since there seems to be a lull in posting here lately (mainly from me), I figured I would post one of my favorite albums from my youth. In 1994 I was in my senior year of high school. I was a typical kid that would spend most of my time skipping school, getting high, and skating. One day one of my friends brought this cassette with him and said we just had to here it. We popped it in, and sure enough it was amazing. I had never heard of pegboy before, they just seemed to pop out of nowhere. All I knew is that this tape was kickass and fun to skate all day long to. I'm not exactly sure how popular Pegboy was in their heyday, but to me and my friends, they were Canada's best kept secret. Until we found out they were from Chicago and plenty of people had heard of them. Either way, this album kicks ass....and so does their cover of Mission of Burma's Revolver.

man, I haven't listened to pegboy in a loooooong time... I seem to remember their singer being a big burly guy, and they had a pretty good live show.

Yeah I heard he was a big dude who's eyes bugged out when he sang all in earnest...

Neat post! Do you have the ep "Fore"? I really liked that one, totally catchy. I remember thinking that Steve Albini played bass on that one. Their final album "Cha Cha Damore" had some good tracks. I wish I'd seen them live.

you got me a by a year. i turn 31 in february...
how old did you think i was?

oh, and sometime at the end of this year we gotta do best of 2007 lists... should we do 25 or 10...

i was also thinking of doing "Best things I heard this year" or maybe just "thing i listened to most this year"... hmmm. maybe thats lame..

I guess I assumed you were around 35 or so...I turned 31 at the end of august.

I like the idea of the year end lists...but I'm with you, there is a lot of stuff that I didn't here until this year, but it might not have been released in 07. I think I will have to do top 25...gonna be way too hard to narrow down to 10

agreed. 25 is better. this has been a good year for music, so its gonna be a hard one.

and you dont have to up any of the records. unless of course you want to...

i guess right now Zen is you, me and Jeff... Destoyer and Maize dropped off, and Nick (Metro/Sea) has his own blog and Phil said he just bought a house, so he might post again, but hes probably busy as hell...

yea its looking like its down to us...I am gonna start posting more content here in a few days. I will have much more free time at work so hopefully that will mean more zen posts. But I think we should do a big year end deally...not sure what but something big! we will have to come up with some cool ideas I guess.

yes, i agree. and i still want to make Zen tees... i havent had any time until this week (which i promptly used to get sick)... so as of today, i am feeling mostly better, no more fever, and a bunch of free time til the end of this month... and not too much going on the rest of the year...

Does it matter if my list isn't all music but movies, events, life altering decisions?

Oh and Blend what day in February do you turn 31. I turn 21 then! (27th!)

Oh and yeah I suck and have been being lazy. Also, I'm young and a lot of the music I listen to is newer and I don't feel super comfortable upping brand new stuff that people should buy instead, plus a lot of the bands I listen to I'm friends with and would hate to have them miss out.

Maybe I can do just a few tracks as a sampler or some of their older stuff.

i turn 31 Feb 12th...

you havent been lazy. like i said man, up older stuff. whatever you want. i agree with not upping too many new things. i like to give bands a fighting chance.

in the case of escapado, i thought they could use the coverage, but generally i wont do that.

i saw you were about to make some posts... Promise Ring, 108, Jawbreaker... all three of those would be amazing posts...

all the old Rev stuff you like, even the newer stuff. My criteria is its gotta be from last year or before unless i have specific reasons to up it.

and as for the 25 best. mull it over. if you cant come up with 25 best of year than do 25 best things you heard this year, or 25 things you listened to most...

I'm class of '93, and was a huge Didjits fan. Pegboy would always be the opening band on Didjits tours, so I got to see them a few times. I remember the singer was pretty big (in a jiggly way) and hairy, and he would always play with his shirt off, looking like Fred Flinstone. Even better, while he was singing he would sweep the front of the stage constantly and give everyone in the front row high fives, which was just awesome and completely hilarious. They were great, but at the time I wished that I was seeing Naked Raygun instead, as they were one of my favorite bands that I never got to see live. I think a lot of people at their shows were thinking that, and they had a hard time overcoming this.

I also got in to Pegboy around the same time, even though I was wild about bands that were hard core for the sake of being hard core it was around this time I started gravitating towards bands like Samiam, Mega City Four, & the Doughboys, Pegboy seemed to fit in prefectly
