Jeremy Enigk - World Waits (2006)

Jeremy Enigk - World Waits

I'm not going to lie, Sunny Day Real Estate still has yet to grow on me the way other bands of the era like Texas is the Reason and Promise Ring have, but I wouldn't have been able to get into any of that without this landmark album. I'm going to go ahead and say I like his latest solo record more than I like "Diary". World Waits is front to end perfect indie rock. It's obviously got similarities to Sunny Day because, well, his voice is definitely his own and no one sounds like him, but its definitely (because of time and technology) engineered better and WAY more epic! It's definitely softer but he shows off a wide variety of music on here. It's not a typical album where song after song sounds exactly the same but then again they don't necessarily branch out genre wise. Needless to say this album has me weeping.Jeremy Enigk - World Waits

jeff, i like Jeremy Enigk, but its a sin that you said this was better than SDRE... they were one of the best bands. ever. Diary and LP2 are two of my most favorite albums.

I should post those up too...

Never heard LP2.

And Diary is okay but doesn't compare to Promise Ring or TITR.

oh man, youre killing me jeff.

SDRE is so much better than the Promise Ring, and Texas is the Reason...

but clearly we are on the uneven ground of relativity and opinion.

either way, the world would be a better place if everyone understood that SDRE were better than PR and TITR.

if TITR did an album of songs that were as strong as the EP, they might have been better. but porbably not. ^_^

The difference is that I only have Diary. Nothing Feels Good and TITR's EP are, in my opinion, the two greatest emo albums ever with maybe Get Up Kids "Something to Write Home About" possibly in the middle there.

If anyone has more albums of great mid 90's emo bands I would really appreciate an upload! :D

Either way Tim check this shit out though. It IS great!

I was told that nothing else of his solo work was worth checking out. Up it if you got it.

his first solo album blows doors off of world waits. i have to say though if it weren't for sdre, you would have never had your promise ring (early singles especially), or mineral, christie front drive, jimmy eat world, get up kids (who stole equally from j.e.w. & sdre), roadside monument the list could go on. i am not discounting titr or the p ring (i'm actually wearing a p ring shirt now) nothing feels good is one of the best pop albums recorded in the 90's hands down, but to compare it to the emotional breadth that was diary or lp2, well it's apples and oranges. but i digress, it's personal opinion and i respect that, great post.
