...:::RADIO SILENCE:::...
If anyone here hasnt not heard of this books existence yet, than now is the time to pay attention.
Radio Silence - A Selected Visual History of American Hardcore Music, by Nathan Nedorostek and Anthony Pappalardo, was released very recently and I want to take this moment to let all of you know that it is thus far the definitive hardcore book in existence. It is chock full of amazing photographs, album art and tees and is presented in a very slick style that is reminiscent of the similarly awesome Banned In DC book.
Peppered throughout the pages are ruminations, stories and ideas as told by the people that were involved when this was all going down. You can hear Adam Nathanson (Born Against) talk about the Sick Of It All debate and how he flier bombed a SOIA show. You can hear Sean Brown talk about his time in Swiz, Matt Anderson (Heroin) and Jeff Winterberg (Antioch Arrow) discuss the San Diego scene and the rules that arose as a way to present themselves.
There are so many great photos from so many time periods including amazing shots of the NYHC shows in the mid to late 80's, early DC hardcore, mid 90's new school hardcore and revival bands and of course the previously mentioned San Diego scene of the early 90's.
Click the cover above and head to amazon to purchase the book for a very good price. Trust me. This is highly worth having in your personal library. I received my copy a few weeks ago and recently brought it upstate with me to a weekend in the woods and my friends Glenn (who has a number of photos in the book), Steve, Joe and Chris repeatedly perused its awesome pages.
Check these images for a little taste. They all blow up bigger if you view the image.
For those of you in NYC and the surrounding areas, there are two nights of openings going on. There is a release party TONIGHT! with Mind Eraser playing and music and free beer. Tomorrow there is a gallery opening, also with free beer, and blow ups of photos from the book. I will definitely be at the gallery opening on saturday, so come by, pay your respects to a movement that has most definitely shaped a little bit of all of us. And say hi to me too! ^_^
There are also some openings going on in the Los Angeles area, so head to the Radio Silence site and check out all the info and other interesting things that they have going on there.
But first and foremost, consider purchasing this book. You wont regret it.

wicked bad!!!! i'll be arriving around 6pm, so i'll probably be going out around 10 or 11, more than likely close to where the asobi kids will be and within purchasing distance of some form of deli sandwich. i'm a sucker for that shit.

also, it is very funny to me that where i find '90s hardcore and punk on the internet, i damn near immediately see a comment from brendan fucking scurvy.

haha! thanks amit! brendan is a good guy. i have not seen him for years, but we spent some laugh worthy moments hanging solid for a year in vermont.

Just a little note:
Cro-Mags kicked-ass last night. The book looks great, and hanging out at the after party was cool. Surrounded by HC legends.
It was a cool event in L.A. Lots of people. Did anyone go to the new york party?
Thanks Brendan. If anyone wants to hear the Torchbearer demo, feel free to download it underneath. We draw on a lot of the 90s style influenced referenced on here, x43x, and a few other OOP hc/punk blogs I've been looking at lately.

I am an ass, so there is no tracklisting/tagging on those mp3s, but feel free to e-mail me if you want one.
hey Amit, if you dont mind, please toss the track tags in a comment here... i would like em and i am sure others would to...
^_^
ps. the tracks have titles...
so no worries on the correct tags. thanks again. im gonna check it in a bit... brendans recommendation counts for a lot in my world.
oh, and Destroyer. i did not go to the party. Just the gallery opening..
Woops. I thought the mp3s were set as track 1-7 without titles. I am horrible with this sort of thing. Thanks for checking it out though, hope you enjoy it.
if my recommendation really counted for something the new fucked up record that came out on tuesday would have sold billions of copies by now...
that is all.
brendan

this book is so good. i love seeing behind the scenes type stuff especially the graphic design aspects to the records they show. times have certainly changed. worth way more than the $25 it cost me.
