Fabric 7"

I cant remember how I found this again, but it was originally released on Doghouse records. I bought it simply because of that reason. After all, Endpoint was on Doghouse and they pretty much ruled. (See Prediction-Error-Signal for a good Endpoint post). As it turns out this was a pretty good blind purchase.

Fabric were a UK band with a heavy post-hardcore sound. Theres only two songs here, but both are 5+ minutes and there are a good number of ideas presented in each song. They come off as a mix of maybe Sparkmarker, Swiz and every once in a while the vocals remind me of Bobby Sullivan from Soul Side. Its a tough call to make, so you decide. They are both good songs with some pretty good production quality, so if you turn it up loud its sure to make you get psyched.

They had a CD as well, and while its not bad it doesnt really stand up to these two songs. I am waiting for some Another Wall stuff to arrive here, and would love to put that up. So keep your fingers crossed that I can get it next week.

Here are some pictures I took of stuff on the streets of the LES. I always find this stuff fascinating. Torn up forgotten pieces of art that look 20 times better than any single of these artists probably intended.

Hope everyone is well. Click and view to make these bigger if you like that sort of shit.

this was a great 7". the CD, not so hot. if they cut like 6 of the songs off the CD, it would have been great. there are some real clunkers on there. to sum up, i agree with and approve of this posting. cheers.

hey, Phil approved of one of my posts! haha! just messing with you. i agree on the album. some of the songs are good, but there is just too much... half as long with all the good songs wouldve been great.

glad you guys liked this one!

Jared, that Group Home album rules! i have had it since it came out, but its been scratched since about 98 or so. i could only listen to the first few songs and the last two songs if i skipped ahead quick enough. otherwise it got stuck in an eternal glitch. i should post it up here... ^_^

I am a bit split on this on. The music is awesome, but the singing is a bit much at times (you know this strained "soulful", emotional singing by someone who doesn't have that much of a voice - no Richie Birkenhead for sure...).
But overall it's pretty good

Reminded me a lot of "Refuse to Fall", the early Equal Vision band. Anyone remember these guys?

blend, how do you make your playlist that you post.

like how do you add all the artwork and get them tracked correctly and all?

Gotta tell you, Blend, this is pretty damned weak. Not that you asked me, of course...

But it reminds me of a lot of otherwise-forgettable early 90's "HC" bands whose 7"s I traded in towards old Crypt & Boner releases. It all sounds a little too cock rock for my tastes.

Lucifer, this isn't Lionel Ritchie. This is Shalamar.

Lionel Ritchie I knew, but Shalamar I had to google (for obvious reasons, as I know know, they did not make it big in Germany...). I was in for quite some treat. Learned something new today.

hehe, yeah, its not the best i got around right now. was just checking those songs out after a while, thought maybe people would like to see something up. its been busy lately. in fact, i also sold this 7" back to Trash in like 95 or something. some of the things i let go of, like Julia and my Groundwork record.. those things i miss, but Fabric, i never missed it.

i'll work on something better. i just received the first Converge record in the mail. i wanted to take pics and re-post that with all the artwork.

oh yeah, i checked out the Tri-State Killing Spree... it was pretty awesome. i love that they have a song called 'Orchid Fans, Take Note"

well anyway, thanks for checking this out, i will work on something more exciting. ^_^

brad, do you mean the last.fm thing on the right? click on it and join up. its free. it tracks everything you listen too.

i think i remember people mentioning an undertow/disembodied reunion show on here? i just read this in Greg's (trial) blog:

Chicago, sometime in April 2009
Disembodied, Unbroken, Trial: all confirmed
Undertow possibly and hopefully confirming soon

i am seriously thinking of flying out to Chicago to see this show. even though its going to be a little nuts.. all three of those bands rule.

brad, i see, do you use itunes? if so... heres a quick synopsis.

1.make a playlist, track it the way you want.

2. recopy all the files (in advanced, select "Convert to MP3") this makes duplicates so that your originals dont get retagged.

3. arrange library by "date added", or make a new playlist with the copied songs in the order you want them. (either one works)

3. select all the tracks, select "get info" and wipe out all the info except for the Artist name. this includes the track number info. wipe it all out.

4. rename the album. (in this case, "Zen and the Art Of NYHC")

5. change Album Artist to "various artists" or v/a" (so the tracks stay together neatly in your iTunes)

6. hit "OK" or "enter" and go to the first track. Name it 1 of X. (X being the total number of tracks). Continue until all the tracks are numbered. (make it disc 1 of 1 if you choose.)

7. artwork. you might have noticed the box in the "Get info" window. whenever you make your artwork, make sure it is saved as a low res jpeg and then drag it into that little box. (I use photoshop and illustrator to make the artwork and then "save for web". i try to keep the images under 100k in file size but i make them at least 500px X 500px)

i hope that helps.

Tim, don't forget it is some kind of flattery (even if it is in a very backhanded kind of way) if people have come to expect more from you.
So take it as that.
Not me though, my expectations in life are always low, that's why I rarely get disappointed ~_^

And the other fact is, you can't dig up Lionel Ritchie nuggets every day.

flattery is for girls.
tim is a man.
don't be so hard on the harshing of fabric, next time sensefield is mentioned here you'll see what i mean.
"i'll be right here waiting for you"

Oh, fuck. It's on. It's ON! Sensefield-off. Do it now. I'll have something up about "Building" or the unreleased Warner Bros. record within the next four hours.

Check me out if you think I'm joking...

fact:
sensefield is the adult contemporary of hardcore. even a no-brainer of angst like 20 eyes became some watered down imitation of itself. seriously saw this band way more than i ever would have liked and still puzzeled how revelation could have let something like that happen.
oh.
burn.
not like gonorrhea.
the soul crushing kind.

any chance any of you guys can upload either the End Of The Line S/T LP or the Fear Of Smell comp or the It's For Life comp.

in return i will upload whatever you think you'd want, that i may have.

awesome. hey if anyone comes across that ZOMES cd (ASA from LUNGFISH), please please please post it...

Blogger luciferyellow said...

Ok, for all my baiting I have to say it is not really a Sense-off if we all agree. As much as I enjoyed their first 2 albums I never really followed them past that (coincidence? I think not). I still bought "building" but can't remember anything from that record. How could Revelation let that happen, you ask? They get greedy, like anyone else.

I actually just bought this under similar circumstances during a trip to the Northwest. Stoked to have MP3s of it... thanks!

Nice to see a post about Fabric, they were quite 'big' in the UK. I have 2 CD releases by them, though its been years since i last gave them a spin. The bassplayer went on to sing with Dukes of Nothing, with guys from Iron Monkey, Orange Goblin etc. They released a record 5 years ago called 'War and Wine'. Worth checking out!!!

Disembodied's 'Confession' 7" God, i put that thing on so many mixtapes!!!! I remember though giving away my copy of the 'if Only God Knew' record.... i could never get into that one.

Thanks a lot.
