The Swarm a.k.a. Knee Deep In The Dead

I am dedicating this post to my friend Sean. Thanks for raising my awareness to these guys. If not for them, by extension of you, I would surely have a serious fucking meltdown today.

I am feeling kind of sick and disgusted of everything these days. I hate our government. I hate the greed of this nation. I hate our economy. I hate our news. I hate so much and I dont have any better answers. Not ones that can be taken seriously at least.

Whats a person to do when everything seems to just get worse?

Listen to The Swarm.

So in honor of being pissed off at the world and taking life way too seriously on a Thursday morning... here is a 7" that makes me feel like I am not alone.

Big ups to Papst Benedikt XVI from Am I Mean? Another person who just cant hate enough.

Seriously. Fuck the world.

Stick my dick in the dirt.

And big "ups!" to xjustinx from x43x for the Force Fed Glass split.

Also massive props to all the rest of you guys. You are the best people I have ever met on the internet. Sorry things have been slow and promises have been hollow.

I will make amends for the site. The world? well thats a different story...

Any band that has anything to do with Chokehold fucking rules. And these guys may be the best of the bunch (yes, I think they're better than Left For Dead).

He, he, cross-pollination (or something like that). While you are downloading and commenting on my blog I am simultaneously downloading this stuff here. I saw you listening to The Swarm a lot on Last.fm, but did not know anything about them, so I am glad you are making this available to the masses now.

P.S. If you are dissatisfied with America and its society I recommend listening to F.U.'s "My America", that will prop you right back up and show you why this is the greatest country in the world.

thanks for the namedropping! I´m really looking forward to that post about punk!

the C.T.T.F. 10" is a split 10" with HUMMINGBIRD OF DEATH and I bought it cause of H.O.D., but you can give it a try here:

chris colohan can do no wrong. even his shitty band (ruination) is leaps and bounds better than almost any other band of that era. r.i.p. cursed.

that is all.

Hell yeah!!! The Swarm is perfect when you're feeling like everyone around you should die! (though not necessarily in a literal sense...I hope).

Chris Colohan's track record is fucking ridiculous! The Swarm, Left for Dead, Cursed!!!; even Ruination was all right. Unrelated, though equally as cathartic, are bands like Tragedy, HHIG, the Holy Mountain, Faithhealer, etc.

Great post! (Thanks for the dedication as well.)

This is one of the best blogs out there. I don't mind if they are slow as long as they are quality posts, and you haven't let me down.

Sick and disgusted could not be a better expression of how I feel about this nation.
I was wondering if any of you has ever been to Seattle and if so, have any tips as to where to go while in town. Concert venues, bars, etc...
I'll be going in a couple of weeks just for fun with my wife.

I was really into ATDI back when they rocked and were still around. I had shot an entire gig they played at a Bowling Alley in OC back in 98 and I have finally digitized it and uploaded to Youtube. If any of you liked them, search for my username "marginwalker01" and you will find 9 songs.

Take care Blend,

i lived in seattle for close to four years, what kind of fun are you looking for?

venues: neumos, the sunset tavern, chop suey, war room, the showbox
bars: hattie's hat,the hazzlewood, linda's, al's tavern, pretty much any bar on capitol hill will have something for everyone
also check out singles going steady, sonic boom, and easy street records. all pretty awesome.

Thx SBJ... I am going to take a look at those places you've listed.
We'll be staying in downtown near the space needle and will be just walking around and seeing stuff. We still have a week to plan, but I would love to be able to see a good concert if we get lucky. Any good local websites with concert listings?

Thx guys!

check out http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Home
it's the website for the local weekly, it'll give you the dish on what's going down in the city. you'll be fairly close to easy street records as well as capitol hill (about a ten minute walk) and all the major buslines. speaking of which, check this: http://transit.metrokc.gov/
it's really easy to read and you can fully get around the city for cheap.

Before I get to the Swarm, I just want to say this is one of my favorite blogs that I check. Besides providing ridiculous music, there is a story behind everything you post. The least I can do is comment on it. So I thank you for the time and effort you put into it.

The Swarm, jesus christ what can be said that hasn't already. I love this band. I love everyhing about this band, the pissed off nature of the music and all. Great uploads.

As always, thanks.

I've seen your link here and there but haven't taken the time to stop and check things out. So much to read and listen to, and so much of it worthwhile. Thanx for this post in particular as I feel the hate as well. I would like to add one more to the hate list and call out the american people. In the words of MDC, greedy and pathetic. How is a couple clear 100k a year not able to make it when some of us are lucky to clear 30k. Fuck the economic crisis because the reality is we are surrounded by idiots. So let's give the Swarm a listen. Thanx for your time and energy.

So awesome. Definitely my favorite Chris Colohan band, so rad to see people get into it. No one in my small town has a clue, despite trying to force it on them... they all live and die by LFD and how they can write The Swarm off, I'll never know.

Also, does anyone know what the Swarm song "Lament" is from? I downloaded it on Napster yeaaaaars ago and I can't figure out what it goes to... maybe it's a comp track? Maybe it's not Swarm (although it definitely sounds like them but it could be a related band)?

Blogger blend77 said...

hmmm. i dont know that song either. link it up if you dont mind.

i bet my friend sean or brendan can tell you what song that is.. they might pop up on here..

so the people in your town, do they actually not care for the swarm, or they are too into LFD to care?

LFD is good, but not as good as The Swarm.. but its all relative.

anyway, thanks for the comment.

if left for dead had gotten an actual decent recording over the course of their career, no one would be having a discussion about which chris colohan band was the best. evidence: the lyrics to "eight floors above" and "pulling teeth." two of the best hardcore songs ever written.

that said, my favorite band of the dude is still cursed. those three full lengths and ep are unfuckwithable perfection, both musically and lyrically. "II" sounds like the best record born against should have written.

ps: i have no idea about that "lament" song. upload it and i'll give it a listen, but i'm pretty sure that the entire swarm discography is contained in what tim posted plus the two comp. songs that other dude uploaded.

that is all.
