Lync

Remembering The Fireballs (Part 8) (K Records, 1997)

These Are Not Fall Colors (K Records, 1994)

I first discovered Lync from a mix tape a pen pal friend had sent me around 1997. I was more of a hardcore kid at the time but my pen pal would send me these incredible mix tapes consisting of a lot of northwest indie bands. One of my favorite bands from these mix tapes was Lync. For me they encapsulate everything that was great about the Northwest indie scene in the 90s. If you are a fan of Unwound or anything coming out of the K or Kill Rock Star labels give these albums a listen. I think you will fall in love with this band as much as I did almost a decade ago.

Lync rules. I already had "fall colors" and am way pumped about now having "fireballs part 8" They sound timeless and fuzzy and nostalgiac in the best way possible. They bite like a punk band but have that vulnerability to their sound that reminds me of some lost platonic ideal of what emo was supposed to be.

I like Unwound (especially earlier stuff) but I've never heard Lync so I'm going to check it for sure...

I usually fall in love with bands which are long gone ;)

Unwound were so incredible. I even love their last album which received a lot of mixed reviews. I'm bummed I never got a chance to see them live.

Thanks for the kind words.

lync was one of the first punk rock bands i ever heard, i remember my friend brad playing me the these are not fall colors lp and totally being enamored by it. shortly thereafter he played me bikini kill's new radio 7" and the nation of ulysses sound of young america 7", suffice to say, i was sold from that moment on.
as for unwound my introduction was waiting for fugazi to play, the opening band on a three band bill was nowhere to be found, just the blasting of some obscure pop punk record the oklahoma city kids were more than likely completely obsessed with, and then from the darkness three unnassuming people take place on stage and for the next fourty minutes the entire venue was awash in feedback and droning melodies. i was only lucky enough to see them once again on what would be the final tour with brandt playing keyboards. a nice little paeon to the history of the band having everyone involved for one last tour.
about the final album i will upload it tonight and post it tomorrow.

what about the worst case scenario discography? does anyone happen to have that?
as a consollation prize to a horrible break-up my ex-girlfriend stole a good couple hundred records to later sell for smack, and that was one of many....

as an extra here's some radio flyer which featured members of hoover and gauge. apparently the band lasted a week;long enough to record these songs and play three shows, and then it was done. nevertheless mighty.

Nice work, sweet, I'm really interesting in Guyver and Embassy and I'm also a Damad fan so I'm going to check their 7'' right now :)

Some time ago I posted on my blog this second Damad full-length (I have also the 1st if you are interesting...) and Radio Flyer - both are great but for different reasons ;)

You have good taste, man!

Oh, and please, try using RAR or ZIP formats next time. It seems like only WinAce can open ACE archives and I really don't like to install another unnecessary piece of software just to open a few files from time to time...

Indeed.. Unwound's worst album was their last, but still rocks. I got to see them a few times, but the last time was after the last album came out and they had a fourth guy playing keyboards for all their newer songs. I remember getting pissed that the keyboardist started to add keyboards to the old songs as well where they did not belong. The other times they were super-good. I got all of their albuns, maybe I'll post them in the future.

Yes, please, if it isn't a problem to you :)

ZIPs and RARs work for all of us and WinACE can also use these formats also, I believe.

Take your time, I can wait even for unknown to me Damad 7'' ;) You make a really good start with your blog so why not to post these stuff on your own one? Feel free to do it, if you want.

If you ask me I tell you that all our blogs usually need one thing: constant updating. And I can bet you are going to feel this pain in the future ;) Good luck, young blogger!
