Requests

Mean Season - Memory and I Still Suffer in Love (2005)
This is for Soulfire...I have never really heard much from this band so I don't have much to write about. I will take this home and listen to it though.

Civ - Thirteen Day Getaway (1998)

Civ of course was popular for having members of the Gorilla Biscuits. They never really lived up to the hype for me....I have come back to this album a couple of times before and I can just never get into it. I will keep trying though, because certain people in my life keep telling me its great. We will see. This is also for Soulfire. If anyone else has any requests...feel free to post them. I will try to fill anything I can.

Thanks a lot, Papstar!

Mean Season was the first American HC-band (I would argue that they are not an "American HC"-band, but they are American, and they operated within the HC-scene) I ever saw live, when they opened up for No For An Answer on their Euro tour.
Their music, although very metallic, is quite emotive - and the vocals are not the screaming kind. Not too excited about the album, but I really dug the 7". Been too long since I listened to it...

The Civ album was a major major major letdown when it came. Still, a couple of good rock songs on there.

I will have the 2 full lengths up in a bit.

Walter from Quicksand wrote almost every note on the first CIV cd. For "Thirteen Day Getaway," CIV decided to go it alone. CIV minus Walter's help = Not so hot.

sweet man...

i think divshare is great, but you have to sign up to keep the files active forever... but i swear they have the best download speeds of everyone...

agreed about CIV and walter... Funyn how he wrote the whole first album. its basically a Gorilla Biscuits album without Walter actually playing on the recording...

have you hear Walking Concert yet? so indie pop, its funny... and the drummer from Bold / Into Another plays drums, and some guy I worked with at the Gap plays the bass.....

2:43 PM
Blogger papstar said...

yes I have heard Walking Concert...way different than what I was expecting.

Have you heard walter's Arthur Lee Ep?

Thanks for demos and 7s! Divshare works for me without problems...

Sorry to hear about your car, pap :( My wife's car is over 20-years old so we know a lot about car problems ;)

I have 'Challenge' too, but my transfer isn't so good, so you may do it faster, I think.

Just uploading 'Fake Train'...

awesome guys! thanks.... i will take Challenge... i think i still have the vinyl.

I found my Current - Coliseum LP! My cat chewed the edges of the packaging. its destroyed on one side, but the record is still intact. I wish I could just get a new sleeve...

awesome Blend.

I just had a talk with my wife over the weekend about purchasing a decent record player...and spending weekly amounts on vinyl.. I know I'm gonna have to buy a whole lot of knitting supplies or some other bs to make up for it!

I think we don't have only 'A Single History 1991-1997' yet, but I don't know if there are any more tracks on it besides the 7s and demos pap upped for us... maybe some compilation stuff, I think.

For those of you interested in some acoustic Walter Schreifels niceness (the Arhtur Lee EP):

Speaking of Arthur Lee (RIP), how good is LOVE? "Forever Changes" is my favorite non-hardcore record ever!

I had completely forgotten that Arthur Lee even died...I guess it was last summer, right?

By any chance does anyone have both of the A Day In Black and White albums?

Blogger sweet baby jaysus said...

yeah he died shortly after getting out of jail. it was a shame really.

as for love, they were fucking amazing and somehow managed to influence a myriad of artists even if they refused to play outside of california. gotta hand it to 'em.

5:14 PM
Blogger papstar said...

yea..I have them
It will have to be in the morning though...lemme know if you still need them then. anonymous

5:22 PM
Blogger sweet baby jaysus said...

also i noticed that in a previous post someone upped the eucalyptus comp.
i don't know if anyone is interested, but i have the allure demo tape. outside of the track on the comp, i think this is everything they recorded before fading into obscurity. anyway, check it out, the sound quality isn't the greatest, and there is no track listing, but i maintain it as yet another document in the history of the hardcore 90's.
check it.

I don't remember where I saw their 2nd album... maybe you should check the emo upload thread on purevolume forum (this link above is from the first page of that thread):

Thanks for this demo, sweet! I like obscure stuff so I gonna check it out for sure ;)

Sweet Baby Jaysus, I presume that your comment about Love refers to the early part of their career? I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Oslo, Norway, Europe a couple of years before Arthur Lee passed away.

"This is the time and life that I am living
And I'll face each day with a smile
For the time that've been given's such a little while
and the things that I must do consist of more than style"

Looking forward to checking the Allure demo. Since we're at it with Civ, how about the "Social Climber" 7" (that wrongfully lead me to believe their second album would hold the standard "Set Your Goals" set)?

5:53 PM
Blogger sweet baby jaysus said...

yes i was reffering to their early career, especially the part of their history when they refused to play the monterey pop festival because it wasn't in L.A.

Hey papstar I'm from Brazil and there's no way I can listen to CIV in my country, since nobody ever heard about this band here.
But please man, can't you repost the album???? It says that this file no longer exists in mediafire.....if you can I'd be really thankful!

Thanks for the Allure demo tape! I had a copy of this taped from a tape from my brother when I was 14. I grew up in the same town as this band. I didn't know anyone who knew who they were. I lost the tape some years after. It's nice to find out their recordings still exist 14 years later. Thank you!!!
