Do You Want More?!!!??!

The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??! (1995)

I figured I would switch up the genres a bit around here and post some good hip hop. Now I know most hip hop/rap sucks, but this album is amazing. The Roots first came on the scene around 1993. I first heard them through a friend in Philadelphia who insisted that I drive up to see a live show. I ended up seeing them right when this album dropped in 1995. I had never seen a hip hop act use actual instruments on stage, let alone actually know how to play them well. Most songs on this album were recorded with a band, not a drum machine. They mix insightful intelligent lyrics with jazzy beats. The first words you hear on this album are "You are all about to witness some organic hip-hop jazz". Those words could not be more true. If you haven't heard this, download this now.

I agree. Talking about hip hop that doesn't suck I like Me'shell Ndege'Ocello, especially two first albums... amazing girl and great bass player.

And I have Beastie Boys' DVD which almost always make me smile :)

this is definitely one of the best hip hop albums ever.... very much like De La and Jungle Brothers and Tribe... that jazzy sound you just cant beat...

J5 is another good jazzy group...

but the best hip hop cd ive heard since this era is Madvillain - Mavillainy.... awesome.

I'm big into the native tounges...tribe, de la, black sheep and so on.
Black sheep's first album is just ridiculous its so good. Common's first two albums are great too.

yea..I'm always afraid to do megaupload because some people seem to have a hard time downloading from them. I upped this Roots album to some new place..usaupload or something. Not sure how the d/l rates are though

I think mediafire should do something with this 100MB limit in the nearest future. Now we can still deal with that splitting big files and it works...

Talking about meagashitload, as I use to call them, they have too much limits to be any useful to me. They have not only the country limit, which I can fairly easy hack, but also this really annoying IP limit which is such a pain in the ass to anybody who is behind a NAT in Local Area Network as me, damn suckers! Without your help, pap, I would be waiting for weeks to download some files from them!

BTW, I'm just uploading the first Me'shell album if any of you is interesting...

It would be missing the point to call it just hip hop record, this girl always do it her own way. Just check and judge yourself...

SUCH a good choice! when i was a kid i was big into hip hop, then gangsta rap kinda killed it for me in the early 90's - but this record brought me bacl. ever since then, i've been devoted to finding all the NON-SUCK hip-hop out there, and there's actually a lot of it. it's just flooded over by the SUCK. other awesome selections: digable planets "blowout comb", and hieroglyphics "third eye vision", two that come to mind off the top of my head.
