zen and the art of mix tapes #005

zen and the art of mix tapes #005 - fabricated trinity

this one is fabricated from 3 mix cds. one was a mix that i made for a friend in a mix cd trade a couple years ago and never got a trade back. one is one that i was making back in may and couldn't get it right and the other is one that i made that wasnt all that good and never made it to the car. so i took these and combined them into one. deleted out the multiples from each cd and trimmed down tracks from the same artist to my favorites. so what you have here is my newest car cd. i think for the next couple editions im gonna go with a theme, just to pull some different styles together with the same lyrical content. enjoy!!!

the rezillos - somebodys gonna get their head kicked in tonight (fleetwood mac)
bellrays - revolution get down
murder city devils - lemuria rising
rose tattoo - nice boys
nirvana - turnaround (devo)
iggy & the stooges - hard to beat
mudhoney - hate the police (dicks)
sahara hotnights - alright alright
kaiser chiefs - i predict a riot
magazine - shot from both sides
love as laughter - temptation island
the starlite desperation - hot for preacher
nick cave & the bad seeds - red right hand
elvis costello & the attractions - lipstick vogue
the rifles - peace and quiet
999 - me and my desire
nick lowe - heart of the city
the suicide commandos - you cant
shock - this generations on vacation
the (international) noise conspiracy - smash it up
buzzcocks - sick city sometimes
french toast - the letter
lou reed - im so free
the rapture - dumb waiters (psychedelic furs)

wow! another great mix. this was an awesome idea maize!

i love that French Toast song, and followed by Lou Reed?! he is the star of a number of nightmares ive had of me being pursued by him through the streets and subways of NYC, with him in face paint (Transformer style), and threatening me with his guitar!!! haha!!

I guess it might just be my computer, but i have tried downloading your mix tapes a couple of times and each time i get an error when when opening them up and i get nothing. i don't know if it's cause of Megaupload or what. But it saddens me that i am not listening to these right now.

but the concept of the mix tape is definately a lost art. it was the best way to court the member of the opposite sex back in the day. what do kids do these days? send a "playlist" do people even make mix cds anymore?

i do have to say you did break one of the rules of mix tapes with a couple of your earlier "tapes", you can never repeat a band. or maybe that was one of my rules.

either way, i am liking this even if i can't listen to them right now.

anybody else having trouble with the megaupload ones?

i didnt repeat any bands omn tape 1 and 5, which were the ones i did, unless you mean the 2 pumpkins on tape 1.

im DLing this one now to see.

i last made a mix tape for my future wife in 96, its REALLY punk and not lovey at all, maybe ill reassemble it and post it.....

when i used to make tapes i did abide by the "no repeating bands" rule. though i have softened that rule as i have re-entered the mix making world.

in some cases, like Maizes first mix, the two songs are placed far enough apart, and go with a flow, in the Post?Post! mix, i had a specific number of bands i really wanted to highlight for my friends tastes, so i doubled up on those.

I think i will follow that rule from now on though...

hey i have been trying to make a mix to share, but apparently i am fucking stupid, because no matter which way i try it mixes up the order of songs...any help would be appreciated...are you using any specific program?? sorry i am a complete dumbass...

im using mediaplayer,im sure the same will work for all players.

i make my burn list and burn a cd, then reload it back in, rename the album title and rip it back to its own folder, all the track numbers will then be in order.

...and youve got a cd already to listen too.

if you use itunes, you can Convert Selection to MP3 from the ADVANCED drop down menu up top. It will copy all the songs so you can rename it as an album, and renumber all the songs without fucking with the original files.

using the "date added" column will help you distinguish which ones are the newer ones.

maize way works just as well too, but in case you didnt have any blank cds, the way i mentioned is useful.

ok so the problem i have now is that it only says "convert to aac" not mp3. plus i originally tried maize's idea and that just wants to replace any of the songs that i burned to disk. sucky
