Sunny Day Real Estate - Thief, Steal Me a Peach 7" (1993)

It's finally here! After a few years of searching for this 7", only to hear one song that I had on a mix tape years ago, all it took was a post about Sunny Day and a request and papstar comes through with the save.

This 7" is super out of print, it is the first recording that Jeremy plays and sings on, and even the cover art was damn hard to find. Song no. 8 is the same song that ended up on LP2, but it is an earlier version. Song no. 9 is the money shot. Jeremys vocals are alot more on the edge here, cracking and threatening to break as the band gets closer to their punk and hardcore roots than they would ever do on later albums.

Some people might find these songs ragged and under produced, but purists will love the unbridled angst that is apparent on these two songs. Personally, 9 is one of the best Sunny Day songs and even after not hearing it for almost a decade, I would still say its one of their best.

Hey, I've been checking out your blog for a while and have found some great stuff on it. I just started converting some vinyl to MP3 and I have some stuff you might dig; including the Pushead fanclub Sunny Day 7". Two songs, one of which never came out on any album (to my knowledge). I have a bunch of Art Monk Construction 7"s too. I don't have a blog, but let me know if you're interested.

spliedt,

definitely sounds interesting. post up that other Sunny Day 7", if you can scan the artwork, then even better.

what Art Monk 7"s do you have? I am looking for this Junction song, and I cant remember the name. Were they on Art Monk? I know Samuel was... either way. I know people would be interested, so post whatever you like here in the comments. Most likely it will end up as a post with a credit to you..

thanks for everything and keep coming back and commenting...

wow, that 7" has (possibly) even better artwork than the Han Shan one... the music is probably pretty good too!

I remember spending months trying to draw a fly just like that for a major school art project... I wish I'd had the back of that record sleeve back then!

cool post

Wow Tim this stuff is even better! The more I listen to SDRE the more and mroe I find that I was very, very wrong about them.

And Gabba, I've done that same thing with SOOOOOOO many albums. I find that your work will always turn out better when you do it in a way that you're comfortable with instead of trying to rip someone elses style.

Here's the Sunny Day 7":
http://www.mediafire.com/?apsjmwmdmyz

I believe the cover is embedded in the MP3. I have a jpeg of it on my home computer that I can post. I can also take a photo of the vinyl and stuff too, and get some info about it if you like. The songs are Friday & Spade And Parade. Friday is a different recording from the album. One noticeable difference is the guitar "clicks" in the begining of the song. Spade and Parade is a great song. I'm not sure why it didn't end up on an album.

I have the Junction discography CD. I can upload that as well.

Some records I recently converted to MP3:
Kerosene 454 - Blown Clean and Two For Flinching 7"
Lincoln - Two Headed Coin, 2 song 7" and 4 song 7" on Watermark
Glendale 7" (Post Lincoln)
Donora 7" (Pre Glendale)
Hoover - Dischord 7"
Threadbare - Watermark 7"

Let me know if you'd like any of this.

yes. post the the threadbare 7" for sure. Ignition was/is one of my favorite hardcore songs...

and the Junction song im looking for may be one of the first few songs off the beginning of the disco... if you could post the whole thing that would be great...

all of those art monk releases sound cool too. i would take all of them, but dont trouble yourself over it. and thanks for the Sunny Day!

thanks to paps too!

this may be wierd, but is the speed on this recording too slow? or perhaps my record player used to be a little fast...haha. i remember this record being a little more peppier.

in related news...i didnt know if anyone posted their first 7" yet, the one before jeremy joined the band. if not, let me know and i can dig it out. the music on it is pretty nice, but the singing (sorry dave) is quite horrid.

i always prefered brotherhood and christ on a crutch anyway.

i could go for some christ on a crutch! perhaps the kill william bennett 7"?

hey spliedt, I think i have the songs from those Kerosene 454 7"s from their Race CD, but I was wondering do you have the cover art?

I might do a Kerosene 454 post myself... such a good guitar band. I don't think their stuff is too hard to find, but Situation at Hand deserves to be 'spotlighted'...

11:20 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was actually looking for Situation at Hand. I have it on vinyl, but would like the MP3s. ... I didn't realize the 7"s came out on CD. I wouldn't have bothered to convert them. Haha.

I have all the artwork on my home computer. I should be there on Wednesday and I'll post it along with the Junction CD.

12:06 PM
Blogger gabbagabbahey said...

Cool!

The Race CD includes Situation at Hand, those two 7"s and a couple of unreleased tracks... it was released by Polyvinyl when their Art Monk stuff became too hard to track down. I got my copy from eMusic, so I don't have any artwork with it. Probably, since it was a reissue, it had a bunch of cool stuff in the packaging but, alas...

I'll post Situation at Hand for you sometime soon... my blog is http://hardcorefornerds.blogspot.com, by the way

Cheers, Gabba

If you could upload that Donora 7" that would be awesome! I love(d) Glendale! Thanks so, so much!

Here is Donora and Glendale.

3 song Donora 7" was released on Withering Recs, but was considered Art Monk Construction 0.5. ... Whatever. They were a great short-lived band that sounded like an emo version of Helmet. Members went on to play in Glendale, and eventually Don Caballero. I also included a song from a split they did with a band call Blowout Kit.

2 song Glendale 7" - They were ex-Lincoln and Donora. I saw them play at John Hiltz's basement in NJ a very long time ago. They were pretty rad.

Art Monk Construction was supposed to release a CD of all of their 7"s. From what I understand, as time went on, the label sold less and less releases and eventually just quietly disappeared. Last time I checked their website, it was last updated something like 1999. I'm pretty sure it's not up any more.

Oh well. Here is the music. Enjoy!
